Southend Primary School is a small, rural school about half a mile away from Southend village on the south Kintyre peninsula.
Our school consists of one large open plan classroom, Library, Active Play Area and Snug. The Hall which is used by Pre 5, Monday to Wednesday is also used for drama, music, physical education, assemblies, concerts, baking/cooking activities and in normal circumstances, After School Clubs. It is also used as a dining area sitting next to the Kitchen. Together they offer good accommodation and a bright, colourful learning environment.
The school has two playgrounds at the rear of the school, one of which is enclosed and comprises a large Pavilion, Wendy House, Mud Kitchen Area, picnic tables, benches and Raised Beds. The larger playground includes a wooden Climbing Frame and a Habitat Area with pond. There are also coloured Number and P.E. tarmac markings. Each of these areas provide a rich learning environment for our children from Pre 5 to Primary 7.
Over the past year, Pre 5 and primary children have enjoyed working with parents, the local community, businesses and partners on a variety of activities which have included, Beach Cleans, planting trees and shrubs, creating Bug Hotels, raising money for various charities, creating Recipe Books, taking part in Roots of Empathy, achieving our 5th Green Flag and Bronze RRS Award, to name but a few.
One of our priorities this year, is to improve the health and wellbeing of our children. As a result, there is more of a focus on outdoor learning, which includes working towards our Sixth Green Flag and Silver Award for Rights Respecting Schools.
Pre 5 and Primary children worked together to create our vision, which is: to be good at learning, to be confident, to learn how to be responsible, to make a difference and to feel safe and looked after.
