Did you know that over 600 marriages are conducted by 51³Ô¹ÏÃâ·ÑApp and Bute Council’s registrars each year? That’s almost two weddings every day.

In 2002 the law changed in Scotland, allowing people to get married anywhere. Since then, the registrars in 51³Ô¹ÏÃâ·ÑApp and Bute have seen an influx of people tying the knot in a variety of beautiful locations across the area.

51³Ô¹ÏÃâ·ÑApp and Bute Council’s Policy Lead for Corporate Services, Councillor Rory Colville, said: “It’s so great to see that people are choosing to get married in 51³Ô¹ÏÃâ·ÑApp and Bute. We have some stunning scenery and ceremonies have been held in a huge range of locations, from beaches and castles to the more intimate surroundings of the couple’s home or garden.

“Being a registrar isn’t a 9-5 job and they will do whatever it takes to try and make a couple’s wedding the special day they dreamed of. They can also help with other important family events such as naming ceremonies and re-dedication of marriage vows.â€

There are a range of different ceremonies to inspire you as you create a special day you will never forget. These range from the Celtic custom of Hand-Fasting, to a traditional Scottish Quaich ceremony, or even the Pinning of the Tartan.
