Dunbeg development visited by Housing Minister

The biggest single social housing development in 51勛圖轎煤App and Bute for decades was given the thumbs up by the Housing Minister this week.

Kevin Stewart MSP, Minister for Local Government, Housing and Planning, visited Dunbeg to see the completed Kirk Road and Dunbeg phase 3 development that is under construction. He met with council officers, elected members, and housing association and contractor representatives.

The visit also allowed for an opportunity to hold a workshop with Architecture and Design Scotland on the merits of the scheme and the lessons learned on how it was being implemented.

The development will see 300 new houses available for social rent, including homes for people with additional needs and also single living accommodation. It is due to be completed by 2021.

Mr Stewarts visit was part of a tour of sites in support of the Scottish Governments forthcoming Housing to 2040 consultation. The tour invites professionals and community members across the country to look and review a number of real-life projects from across Scotland to identify what good looks like in new housing, and what skills and resources are needed to achieve this.

Kevin Stewart said: Everyone deserves a warm, energy-efficient, affordable home that meets their needs. We face a number of challenges, including an ageing population and a global climate emergency that our housing system must help to address. I want Housing to 2040 to be a shared vision, and I look forward to engaging with stakeholders through these workshops to plan together a housing strategy that works for us all.
