Head teachers share good practice and collaborate with educational experts

Head Teachers from across 51³Ô¹ÏÃâ·ÑApp and Bute gathered in Oban earlier this week to share good practice and collaborate with educational experts from across the country at the third Headteacher Conference of this session.

Elizabeth Morrison, a Professional Advisor at Scottish Government, spoke about her vast career in education, focussing on strategic leadership, whilst Joan Mackay from Education Scotland’s Curriculum Innovation Team, provided head teachers with an insight into evidence-led curriculum design.

During the workshop, discussion focused on exploring current trends influencing Scottish Education, as well as the current challenges and opportunities facing our society and economy.

Head teachers also took part in various workshops throughout the afternoon, which focussed on:

  • Leadership of Early Learning
  • Leadership of Inclusion
  • Shared Leadership Across Settings
  • Leading Self-Evaluation for Improvement (delivered by Dave Gregory, Senior Regional Advisor with Education Scotland).

51³Ô¹ÏÃâ·ÑApp and Bute Council’s Policy Lead for Education, Councillor Yvonne McNeilly, said: “The termly Headteacher Conferences are great networking events. They give our head teachers the opportunity to meet up and share their experiences, and enables them to go away feeling inspired and motivated.

“We are delighted that during this session we have been able to return to hosting these events in person and seeing the positive ethos and commitment to continuous improvement across our service and its leaders.â€
