Community Views wanted for Campbeltown active travel route

More opportunities to walk, cycle and wheel along Campbeltown Esplanade and Kinloch Park, is the aim of a proposed active travel route for the town centre.

Following public feedback, and the success of works already completed, 51³Ô¹ÏÃâ·ÑApp and Bute Council is now asking for views on new proposals for the Esplanade and Kinloch Park, as part of the next phase for improving walking and cycling opportunities in Campbeltown.

The proposed route will link the town centre, Dalintober, and Askomill along the Esplanade and through Kinloch Park, with places to stop and enjoy the view along the way.

Have your say

A series of community consultations will take place to gather views on how the proposed route can best meet the needs of all users.

Pop in to the Town Hall, Main Street on 28 February, between 5:30pm and 9pm to give the design team your thoughts on how the route should be located and designed to best serve the community.  An online consultation opens on the 28 February to 13 March and will be available via the council’s website.

Councillor Andrew Kain, Policy Lead for Roads and Infrastructure:

“As we work together to reduce emissions and create a climate friendly 51³Ô¹ÏÃâ·ÑApp and Bute, we want to create as many opportunities as possible to use the car less. Expanding active travel networks in and around Campbeltown is key to that.

Your feedback is really important and will help shape future plans as we look to make it easier to walk, wheel and cycle to destinations around the town.â€

The project follows previous works to improve active travel in the town including segregated cycleway construction on Ralston Road and Meadows Avenue near Campbeltown Grammar, Hospital and Castlehill Primary. The council is also planning to make improvements to the path through the Cutting and Quarry Green.

The Scottish Government’s Cycling Walking and Safer Routes Programme is funding the project, with support from Highland and Islands Transport Partnership (HITRANS).
