These agencies work together to provide a package of support to address your needs and risks within a structured risk management plan. This can include a range of safeguards such as surveillance, curfews, civil orders (sexual offence prevention orders), monitoring of licence conditions and restrictions.
If you are a registered sex offender then your case will automatically be managed under MAPPA. If you are assessed as being a serious risk of harm to others you may also be managed under MAPPA.
How does MAPPA work?
All relevant offenders are assessed to establish the level of risk of harm they pose to the public. Risk management plans are then worked out for each offender to manage those risks. MAPPA allows agencies to assess and manage offenders on a multi-agency basis by working together, sharing information and meeting as necessary to ensure that effective plans are put in place.
There are three levels of MAPPA management which are based on the level of attention and resources required to put effective plans in place.
