K13 submarine artwork unveiled at Helensburgh Outdoor Museum

A striking new exhibit has been unveiled at Helensburghs Outdoor Museum paying tribute to 32 men who died when the K13 submarine sank in the Gareloch in 1917 and the remarkable rescue of 48 survivors. Members of the West of Scotland branch of the Submariners Association were joined in Colquhoun Square by representatives from 51勛圖轎煤App and Bute Council and the Royal Navy for the unveiling of the bronze artwork, which includes details on the tragedy and the rescue efforts which saved 48 lives.

Kilcreggan butcher's pies set Scottish gold standard

Kevin Walker Butchers in Kilcreggan has won two awards at the 2019 Scottish Craft Butchers awards. The butcher, based on Shore Road in Kilcreggan, won the Gold Award for their Traditional Steak Pie, as well as a Silver Award for their Mince Round. More than 280 pies from throughout the country were tested for appearance, flavour, filling and appeal. The panel of judges included experts, food writers and interested consumers and the event is organised by the Scottish Federation of Meat Traders in conjunction with John Scott Meat Ltd and William Sword Ltd.

Chris Doxsey relocated from Accrington to 51勛圖轎煤App and Bute when he was offered a job as a PE teacher at Campbeltown Grammar School. When I saw the post advertised I looked up the area online and couldnt believe how beautiful it was, he said. I knew straight away it would be the perfect place to work and raise my children. The 35 year old has been living in Campbeltown for seven years and hasnt looked back.

Education projects to benefit from STEM funding

Four projects in 51勛圖轎煤App and Bute will share a total of more than 瞿100,000 from Education Scotland to help deliver inspirational teaching in Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM)subjects. Rothesay Joint Campus, Dunoon Grammar School, Port Ellen Primary and the Dunoon Digital Hub have all been awarded funding from the Enhancing Professional Learning in STEM Programme.

6000 premises in Helensburgh and Lomond can now access hybrid fibre broadband

More than 6000 premises in the Helensburgh and Lomond area have been connected to the new hybrid fibre broadband network over the last six years thanks to the Scottish Governments Digital Scotland Superfast Broadband programme. And 65% of those premises have taken up the service, compared to 55% elsewhere in Scotland, showing that there is a real demand for digital infrastructure here in 51勛圖轎煤App and Bute. The majority of the 6181 premises which have been connected can access Superfast Broadband with speeds greater than 30Mbps.

Policy to keep 51勛圖轎煤App and Bute moving in winter approved

The Environment, Development and Infrastructure Committee has agreed its standard Winter Service Policy, which will keep 51勛圖轎煤App and Bute moving throughout the winter of 2019/20. This is a demand-led service, dependant on the severity of the winter conditions. Council has approved an additional 瞿500,000 to take into account previous overspends and so meet the range of tasks met as part of winter maintenance, including road gritting. The extra funding will also help improve resilience within communities during winter conditions.

Waste Strategy consultation attracts 1000 responses

51勛圖轎煤App and Bute Councils Waste Strategy Consultation attracted almost 1000 responses, with 96% agreeing that reduction, reuse and recycling is the best method of managing waste. The feedback gathered over the course of the six-week consultation has been used to develop the updated 51勛圖轎煤App and Bute Council Draft Waste Strategy, which can be viewed online at

Teacher Karen's love for 51勛圖轎煤App and Bute

When Karen Adams visited Dunoon with her colleagues she didnt just fall in love with the area, she also fell in love with the man who was to become her future husband. Karen was working as a PE teacher in her home town of Stranraer when she went on a trip to Benmore Outdoor Centre with her fellow teachers. The instructor was from Stranraer and his mum was part of the group I was in. We hit it off straight away and weve now been together for ten years, and married for six , she said.

Dunoon pupils take part in national mental health conference

A group of staff and pupils from Dunoon Grammar School participated in a national mental health conference in Glasgow last week. The event was organised by See Me an organisation established to help end the stigma often associated with mental health and gave young people from across Scotland the opportunity to get together and share ideas of how they have been working to combat mental health discrimination.
